The Glacier Expedition
Going to the Sun
After a couple hours, the spirit moved us to retry the entrance of Going to the Sun Road, and we boarded the Wagon to approach the roadblock. We approached from one direction as only the third car in line.
Wears the Skis!
After some discussion of how we would spend the afternoon, we decided to visit the town of Whitefish and hike a trail at the Whitefish Ski Resort. The Resort seemed to be just as active as when there was snow.
Rolling with the Punches
No camping, no boats, no backcountry, poor fishing, half of the park closed, and now no hiking. In that moment I felt a sense of solidarity with Sisyphus.
Wading Weather
The directions getting there and finding a campsite were ambiguous, which was made worse by rain. After perhaps driving backwards more than forwards (because we were confused by several signs), we found a camp area where several other tents and cars were located.
Reclamation and Perpetuation
My Dad and I discussed the ongoing debates between the Bureau of Reclamation, a group trying to harness the power of water in the West, and the Sierra Club, one of the foremost environmentalist groups. While these two groups advocate for the polar opposites based on their principles, it is probable that solutions on matters of the environment should be compromises between these two ideologies.
