In and Out
After all three of us got a great night of sleep, we drove to Aunt Sally’s house to have breakfast. To complement the delicious meal, Tom, Dad, and I discussed the best way to attack Glacier National Park, our next stop. Tom lived in Kalispell, Montana, and spent quite a bit of time in Glacier. He gave us great advice on sights to see, trails to travel, places to fish, and best driving routes. While our many books and online research helped us gain an idea about Glacier, Tom helped add color to our illustration.
Around 10:30 AM we left to take Kendall to the airport and pick up my cousin Claire flying back from California. After some antics with baggage at the airport, we drove back to Medina. Aunt Sally and Claire gave me a tour of the house, then Aunt Sally took my Dad and me on a tour of Seattle. Aunt Sally explained the neighborhood dynamic within Seattle, and talked about the development in the area. We went to the Space Needle, Kerry Park, the Pike Place Fish Market (including the first Starbucks and the Gum Wall), the stadiums of the Mariners and Seahawks, CHOP, and the University of Washington campus. We were able to cover a lot of ground because of Aunt Sally’s great knowledge of the area.
After a wonderful breakfast with Aunt Sally and Tom Amidon, we dropped Kendall off for her flight back to St. Louis and picked up Claire from her flight into Seattle from California.
A Taste of Seattle

The day was pressing on, so after our tour we went to pick up some groceries for dinner. We picked up some fresh copper river king salmon, and Aunt Sally cooked the salmon out on the grill. It was quite a treat to enjoy seafood right from the Pacific Northwest. I really enjoyed getting to spend time with Aunt Sally, Tom, and Claire while we were visiting. Although only in town for a few days, we were able to experience Seattle authentically because of their expertise. After the wonderful dinner and conversation, Dad and I headed back to the Residence Inn to prepare to leave tomorrow morning.
Our dinner of copper river king salmon and morel mushrooms. It goes without writing that it was a great dinner with even better company.
Thank you Aunt Sally, Tom, and Claire for being such gracious hosts! It was so great seeing you.
